The Birder’s Bothy is an off-grid shepherd’s hut with a veranda, set in a sunny spot in the open woodland behind the castle at Bamff, with plenty of space around it to relax and enjoy the outdoors. The surrounding native woods are full of birdsong, and the Bamff beaver wetlands are a five minute walk away. The bothy is custom made from all natural materials with wool insulation and hessian blinds. Lighting is by solar panel.

There is an outdoor table, a barbecue and a fire-pit shared with the Rewilder’s Hut.

Inside the Birder’s Bothy has a double bed, bunks, (full single bed size), a wood burning stove and a table for 4 and chairs. You enter through a neat little kitchen with two ring gas stove and sink and everything you need to cook a simple meal.

90 meters away there is a attractive loo and shower room, shared with the Rewilder’s hut.

You can park your car within 30 meters of the accommodation.

The Birder’s Bothy is on the Cateran Trail which is featured in Observer Magazine’s 10 best long-distance walks in UK. We can arrange transport to and from any other sections of the trail.

Nearby is the Scottish Woodland Skills Centre where many interesting courses are available.

If you would like to see the Bamff beavers, please let us know in advance to arrange a guided walk. You can also book tours of the wildland project.

The Wildland walks for guests are £40 per accommodation unit. The walk  takes approximately 2 hours and happens during the day, usually starting  at 10 am or 3 pm. The guide – normally a family member – will take you round some of the Wildland area and explain our rewilding project. You will learn where the beavers live and what they eat and see many dams and other impacts.

The beaver watch walk is £30 per unit of accommodation. It takes place in the evening, usually around 8 pm.  From April to September there is usually a good chance of seeing beavers.

Our two nights in the Rewilder’s Hut were completely magical. Bamff is the most beautiful and peaceful spot: the perfect secluded getaway. The hut is very well kitted out, with a great little kitchen set up and very clean and comfortable bedding. The bathroom facilities on site were also clean and comfortable – plenty of hot water! The walks and wildlife were amazing. It was wonderful to see beavers, bats and frogs and feel truly immersed in the wilderness. What a special visit.

Thank you for a wonderful few days at the Rewilder’s Hut! So peaceful and atmospheric, surrounded by nature and right in the middle of the rewilding site. Everyone at Bamff was very helpful and friendly and I enjoyed lots of walks in the local area taking in the incredible sights, including ospreys and beavers! The Hut itself is very cosy and comfortable, in a beautiful spot and equipped with everything you need for a simple get-awav. Perfect for anvone who loves nature – I couldn’t recommend more!

My husband and I stayed here for an evening and we were greeted by fantastic hosts, who were extremely helpful- showing us all the facilities they had to offer. The rewilder’s hut was exactly as pictured and immaculately clean. The bed was very comfortable and the stove kept us nice and warm. There was a picnic bench and barbecue to use in the peaceful surroundings at Bamff. The Bamff honesty shop was well stocked and we bought a few items from there too- super handy incase you forget anything! We enjoyed long walks around the grounds, the landscape that the beavers had formed was fascinating and we also spotted some wildlife enjoying the wetlands. 5 stars from us. Thank you to all at Bamff for a very relaxing and unique break.
