SUMMARY:Secret Life of Bamff Mammals – Trail Cameras
DESCRIPTION:What better way to learn about the secret lives of UK mammals than to use a trail camera?\nCome and join us as we explore the beautiful Bamff Estate and set up trail cameras to view the secret lives of the mammals that thrive there.\nWe will identify field signs of species such as beaver, pine marten and otter, as well as show you how to correctly set up trail cameras for each species.\n\nThis is a unique opportunity to have a fun-filled day as well as gain some practical field skills.\nItinerary\n– Meet and greet followed by a short presentation on the natural history of the area\n– First we will explore the beaver ponds and identify signs of beavers\n-We will then follow the burn that flows from the beaver ponds to identify field signs of otters\n-We will then search the woodland for signs of red squirrels, roe deer and the elusive pine marten\n-A demonstration of how to set up a trail camera to target each species will be shown.\n-The best footage from all the cameras will be sent to you around a week later\nOn completion of this day you will gain valuable field skills (tracking, camera trap set up) and leave with an increased knowledge in the biology of UK mammals.\n \nAbout your instructor Wayne Gourlay\nI am extremely passionate about wildlife in the UK and I take any opportunity to showcase this passion in an attempt to educate and inspire others.\nI first learned how to set up camera traps to target species such as jaguar in the remote rainforest of Guyana. Since returning home to Scotland, I have applied these techniques in a variety of habitats to focus on a wide range of species. I have tailored my skills and spent 100s of hours in the field to identify field signs of often elusive animals. I have recently completed a degree in Zoology at the University of St. Andrews where I conducted extensive research on the limitations of camera traps.\n \n\n\n
